According to Apple.com, the “iPhone 7 dramatically improves the most important aspects of the iPhone experience.” The phone was released September 7, and many are still trying to get their hands on it.

The phone comes with the basic charger, cube, headphones and an adapter for the headphones, along with the
manual and the two Apple stickers. It is now splash and water resistant, and has a new home button. The newest iPhone comes in two new colors: matte black and jet black, but also comes in its original colors: rose gold, silver and gold. The matte black is a non-glossy black, while the jet black is glossy looking.

Graduate Becca Fleming has the matte black. “I chose the matte black over the other colors because my other iPhone was white and I wanted a darker color,” she said. Also, the antenna lines don’t stand out as much on the matte and looks cleaner. ”

The headphone jack was removed, with stereo speakers were put in its place. The stereo speakers delivers two times the audio output, with increased dynamic range, meaning the phone is louder than previous generations.

To make up for the loss of the headphone jack, Apple has created Airpods: wireless headphones that keep the shape of the current headphones. A major downfall of the headphones is that they must be bought separately for $159. The headphones are now available to order online and purchase in the Apple store, just in time for Christmas.

Don’t want to spend $159 on headphones you are likely to lose? The phone comes with an adapter and the original headphones.

“Removing the headphone jack doesn’t bother me much, because I barely ever used it, but it still does get annoying,” said junior Jaxson Belsito. “I think they should have kept it in.”

The headphones can be plugged into the adapter, and the adapter plugged into the charging port on the phone.

An A10 Fusion Chip in the phone has been labeled as “the most powerful chip ever used in a smartphone,” making it faster and more efficient than any previous generations.

“I’ve noticed that it is way faster than previous generations,” Fleming said. “The phone runs so smoothly and doesn’t have any of the complications other generations have had. Apple took their time perfecting each little detail.”

Belsito is not as impressed. “My 6 froze a lot and so does my 7,” he said.

When needed, the 7 uses an all-new architecture, which allows faster processing. When the chip is not in use, it uses even less power, creating a longer-lasting battery life. The chips allows more time between charging, giving the 7 two extra hours of battery life, and the 7 Plus one hour extra.

“The longer battery life is really nice,” Fleming said. “I don’t have to constantly worry about charging my phone or keeping it about a certain percentage without it dying.”

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus use the same color space as the cinema industry, which makes the display more vibrant and allows more shades of the color spectrum to be used in creating images.

With a screen that is 25% brighter, what is seen onscreen is a “truer representation of the world,” The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch screen with retina HD display and a resolution, (how many pixels are used to display an image), of 1334×750. The iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen, with retina HD display, but a resolution of 1920×1080.

Continuing from the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, is 3D Touch. The phone responds with subtle taps — users can see it and feel it, allowing you to interact with Mail, Messages, Calendar and more apps than ever before.

With the new iPhone 7 Plus, “two cameras shoot as one.”

“I’ve noticed an incredible difference in the camera quality compared to my iPhone 6, senior Jenna Claussen said. “My 7 Plus takes better quality pictures. I can get closer to an object and my phone will still focus in on it, unlike my 6.”

It comes with a 12-megapixel wide angle and telephoto lens. Users can now get a higher quality zoom from further away with an optical zoom of 2x and a digital zoom of 10x.

The new portrait mode automatically creates depth of field, making the face sharp and creating the blurry background effect. This feature had been previously reserved for DSLR cameras, but the iPhone 7 Plus uses its dual-camera system to produce that effect.

The iPhone 7’s camera has been re-engineered to make it better for shooting videos and taking low-light pictures. It now has optical image stabilization, allowing less blurry pictures and smoother videos. It now allows up to 50% more light into the camera sensor, with the f/.18 aperture.

“My pictures seem more like it actually happened,” Clausen said. “The colors are the actual colors of the subject and I can zoom in on the picture without it becoming extremely pixelated.”

Both the 7 and the 7 Plus come with a new, 7-megapixel, front-facing camera with higher resolution and a wider color capture than previous models. A Retina Flash also matches ambient light for a shot with natural-looking skin tones.
