Savannah Nevels placed fourth in the state indoor track meet March 4 at The University of Akron, at which she was joined by fellow Streetsboro senior qualifiers, Milton Wilson and Malik Johnson.

Nevels’ fourth place finish was in the
200-meter race, with a time of 25.98 seconds. She also placed sixth in the 60-meter finals, with a time of 7.92 seconds.

“I didn’t meet my expectations, but I feel like I accomplished my first goal,  which was to make it past regional finals and go to states,” she said.

She advanced to states with her January 15 performance at the Kent State Field House, where she placed second in both the 200-meter and 60-meter races, with times of 25.78 and 7.93 seconds

To qualify for states in his events at this same meet, Johnson had placed third in the 60-meter race, breaking his own personal record, with a time of 7.18 seconds.

At states, he finished 15th in the 60-meter race, with a time of 7.24.

“I think it was a big accomplishment making it to states,” Johnson said. “I don’t think anyone should be satisfied with something other than first.”

After breaking his personal record in shotput with a throw of 53’3,” and a second place finish at the February 19 meet at KSU, Wilson advanced to states for the second time in his indoor career.

He then placed 13th, with a throw of 52’02”.

“I think I did pretty good, but there is still room for improvement,” he said. “At states, I didn’t make the mark I wanted, but it felt good to be within PR range.”

Yet, Wilson added, “I’m not satisfied, I’m a hungry athlete that always looks for more.”
