Dressed up as Ted Lasso and a student on Halloween are Assistant Principal Jay Bishop and Principal Brett McCann.

SHS is currently without leadership for the next year, as both Principal Brett McCann and Assistant Principal Jay Bishop are moving on to other roles.

Principal Brett McCann will be the new Director of Teaching and Learning at the board office.

Bishop was originally hired to take over for McCann, as the head principal, but then decided to take an assistant superintendent position in Orville.

McCann is currently wrapping up his fourth year at SHS.His first year here was when this year’s seniors graduated were freshmen. He said he has loved working with all the staff and students. That has made his decision to leave difficult, but he chose to move over to the board office because of his family. Even if he loved being principal, going to concerts and sporting events, doing all those things is impacting time spent with his family. Handling three kids, including 3-year-old twins, so often on her own, is hard on his wife. His new position will allow him to have a normal work schedule and be able to be home more for his wife and kids.

“I also don’t want to leave at all,” McCann added. “It’s very tough and I love it here, and I love the kids here and I love the staff here, so it’s very mixed emotions…It’s a lot of good but it’s going to be sad that I won’t be here.”

Bishop said the decision to leave SHS was also very tough for him.“This past year, I have really grown to care and respect for the students and staff. This is a special place.”

He said he took two elements into consideration when making the decision to leave. One of the elements was professional growth. The other was his family. He said he sat down with his family to discuss which job would be better for all of them in the long run.

“I really enjoy working here with everyone,” he said. “It’s a fun experience.”
