An axe-throwing venue called TimberBeast Axe Throwing has opened in Streetsboro, on Market Square Dr., in the Dollar Tree plaza.

Manager Stefan Karakis explained that axe throwing is a lot like golf or bowling. Even kids as young as 11 can do it, he added, though those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“As long as you can physically get an axe to the target… we can help you with your throw, ” Karakis said.

Math teacher Ryan Spence went to TimberBeast with some friends and said that it was a good experience. He had never thrown an axe or a throwing star/ninja star (a blade shaped like a star) before going. He said the hour they spent there went quickly.

“It’s not as easy as it looks,” Spence said. “A lot of it is difficult because you got to get the axe to rotate a certain amount of times, and if you don’t get it to rotate right, it’s just going to clunk off the bullseye/board.”

The business is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Fridays, from noon-to 10 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays.

TimberBeast has leagues and a party room. They also accept reservations. Pricing for sessions and party rooms ranges from $25 to $150. League pricing ranges from $15 to $270.

Reservations can be made for parties or an entire lane/table and participants are permitted to bring food and drinks. Karakis said they are working on setting up a kitchen to offer food like hot dogs, pretzels and paninis.

The business is affiliated with the World Axe Throwing League (WATL), but the most popular league at TimberBeast is called the Standard Hatchet. This league bowls on Wednesday and Sunday nights.

The biggest thing Karakis said he loves about working at TimberBeast is the competitive community. The community is very supportive, he added, and every single one of them will help throwers improve.

TimberBeast has another location in Medina.
